Hello, everyone!   I hope you are having a wonderful start to your new year!  So far the weather seems to dictate which direction I do or do not go each day... Which is normal for the end of January, so it could be a long Winter or bring Spring that much closer.  I sure don't envy those who live in Alaska these days... Well after much consideration and reflection, I have decided to not continue with our beloved Top Your Table Club or Designer Quilt Clubs. I am hoping to incorporate new ideas as we go another direction this year. Change is good, and we hope to come up with new alternatives. Thank you for 15 years of fun & inspiration!

Hello, everyone!  Holy smokes for snow!  I hope you are all home safe and sewing...  I know my guys had to drive across the yard and in the field to get to the road here (we now have a Bev shortcut - haha!).  He figures at least 10", but when it comes from the east it's hard to tell as it gives us nice 4 foot drifts.  Here's to hoping mother nature got that out of her system...

Here's an Emmett pic!  We ended up rerouting the strand...  He learns something new each week.  Last week was reaching for everything.  My favorite was him gently feeling the garland on the tree through his fingers.  Can't wait to see what this week brings! Santa came Saturday morning, and mom and dad were in bed because he (we) had a rough night so gramma and grandpa let him open a present all by himself!  I didn't think he would do as well as he did at 6 months but he removed all of the paper.

Since last March we have a new POS system that includes the website and everything I knew was turned upside down.  I'm still in the learning phase, but I just have to do it.  How has your quilting Winter been going?  Mine, too fast.  That must mean we have been busy sewing here at Designer Fabrics!  The wedding/anniversary quilt has officially been gifted!  I really enjoyed the process (a whole year of working on it) but I have so many odds and ends left over I feel like I should continue and use them up!  See what size I can come up with the leftovers.  Anyone save all of their leftover pieces from a project for "someday"?  I have complete projects with leftovers that I could work on at retreats!  Change your mind midway in a project and make it smaller? Cut the corners off that would've been in the garbage, but there were so many of them you save them all for a secondary project? Or cut so miserly that you have leftover yardage or bits and pieces for another coordinating project? For now mine are bagged and tagged so I can grab and go to another retreat and not have to think so much about organizing another project.   With the mask mandate subsided in ND, we aren't "requiring" them, but sure do appreciate them being worn in the shop.  Many of us have not had Covid and we'd like to keep it that way. So thank you in advance. Up next, February!  February 2nd~ Embroidery Club- We will try to work on the Spring version of the Seasons of Buttons, or work on your UFO's. Spring Kits are available and more buttons are coming this week if we are out.  Doors open to Club members at 9:00. So many have been inquiring about our annual Super Bowl Football Widow's Sale... Yep, it's still on! Specials will be posted in-store that day- Sunday, February 7th from noon-5pm.  And we will have you home in time for the kick-off! Many customers come in with a written list and we point them exactly to the fabrics.  Others, case the place the week before so they know where they need to be looking and have their measurements ready for us to cut.  It is one of the biggest sales we have all year and we are quite busy!  February 9th at 10am we will be participating in the Quilting Across The Dakotas Facebook live event.  Due to this we will be closing the doors until 11:00 am to concentrate on our event.  I get easily distracted... Hello, everyone!  Well, Summer weather is finally here and I have been taking advantage of the outdoors being at home most of the time.  I'm still trying to figure out the new system we have implemented and it's throwing me several curve balls.  Some days I feel like this old dog doesn't like new tricks...  But instead I tuck and roll to the best of my ability. 

I just thought I'd let you know that Designer Fabrics is changing our open days to Monday-Wednesday-Friday through June 1st and will be reevaluating those days on June 1st.  

We have still been receiving our shipments of new goods into the shop, even though we haven't had regular hours since March 17th.  So there is quite a bit more finding it's way into the shop and more to come!  Keep in mind everything is available online at www.quiltdesignerfabrics.com!  I do believe Christmas is on it's way!!  Along with new notions and fabric, We have several new samples as well!!  I am still working on changing out finding new spaces to hang them, but the kits are available!

Please give us a call at 701-652-3535 if you have any questions.  Or, if you are still unsure of coming in the shop, we will continue our curbside pickup or Carrington delivery.  Thank you for your patience as we find our new normal at Designer Fabrics!  We will be open on Monday, May 25th from 10-5.  Please have a safe Memorial Weekend!

Hello, Everyone!  Long time since you may have heard from me.  I'm still here, feeling a bit overwhelmed at all of the technology challenges that have presented themselves with a new system.  This is my first test run!  I'm hoping everyone is healthy, safe & quilting!!  We at Designer Fabrics have taken precautions to keep all of you healthy.  We are currently CLOSED, but do offer curbside pickup on days that I am in the shop, along with local in-town delivery if needed.  And as always, we are shipping out any online orders as often as I get in the shop!  Our website is www.quiltdesignerfabrics.com.  If nothing else, go and check out our website and see what's new!  You may want to explore a bit!!  There are many new features to our website, one of which is that you can now see how much we have in stock!  Just click the amount and a drop down menu will only allow you to order in quantity what we have on hand!  Check out through the PayPal button, and either use your PayPal account or your credit card for options.  We will let you know when your order is ready for pickup or has shipped! Don't hesitate to place your order over the phone either at 701-652-3535, as I have forwarded my calls to my cell phone.   For now, our Clubs are on hold.  For those of you in Topper Club or Designer Quilt Club, be sure to be working on your UFO's!  No excuses now... ;-) We will make up for lost time soon!   I just cut up kits for this version of the Rustic Tiling- Wood Version Quilt!  They are in stock!  This week I will be chopping kits for the Steel Version (of which you can catch a glimpse of in the picture)!  They are beautiful saturated batiks from Northcott's Banyan Batik Collections! We are currently out of 1/4" elastic, but there have been many more creative ways to be making ties for the Isolation Masks that have been being made!  Check them out on our Designer Fabrics Facebook page as we have been sharing a ton of ideas and patterns to keep everyone in stitches!! We are sure starting the New Year off right with one retreat under my belt! Guess where I was...? My home away from home. Time to finish a few more shop samples at the next one we are vending for this weekend. Be sure to check out all the "NEW" fabrics streaming into the shop! I went in today to get more entered into the system and doing so, I moved a pile into the clearance to make more room for them! The shelves are getting full all around the shop!!

Sorry, if I am MIA for the next month or two... I'll be vending for retreats and helping with Megan's wedding, but rest assured you are in great hands with the ladies at the shop! I may surface somewhere around the end of February or the beginning of March...

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from our house to yours!! One more Christmas left to celebrate for us, and the impending weather has put it on hold for one more week... It may be just winter weather, but I'd rather be safe than sorry out on the roads. The sun is shining and there are no signs of anything today, but I needed a day to play catch up with a few things anyway. Last night, Quilt Club closed our final chapter of 2019 with a wonderful surprise for a very deserving Georgianna! Thank you to everyone participating and for inspiring others to create such wonderful projects! We couldn't do this without you!! I hope you are all getting the chance to sew up some great pieces for 2020! I'll do my best to make new exciting projects to share with you as well!

Hello, Everyone!

I've been a bit distracted this morning to the sights and sounds of combines running outside next to my house today! Yay! It's been a few weeks since the boys have been able to get anything off the fields. It was in the teens this morning when I heard them fire up and it has rebounded into the lower 30's. Let's hope they don't find themselves in the mud troubles everyone else has been having around here... I feel like I should be out there getting my last mowing in that I never had a chance to do. Leaves continue to fall and the snowbanks are still shrinking. Then I am reminded of how cold it is outside and decide the inside work will continue. That's alright. I need to stay on task today...

I wasn't able to make it to the Badlands Retreat due to the weather, but did manage to get out to Richardton to vend for a group of ladies a week ago. We had a great time and managed to get quite a bit done! I'm gearing up for a full house at Crystal Springs in a few weeks and need to organize my projects to work on. We have had several new samples and piles of fabric/notions/patterns make their way into the shop in the last couple of weeks. Stop on in and check it out if you're in the area!!

Hello, Everyone!

Well, sounds like this will be our Indian Summer through Tuesday, then the Winter weather advisories are to begin... Please keep your local farmers in your thoughts as there is a lot of crops left out there to come off. So, perfect quilting weather, right? Time to stock up and get your projects cut out! I'm getting ready to attend the Badlands Quilt Retreat in Medora this weekend, and cutting my projects out is on my to-do list. I am quite excited to partake in a retreat and having mixed feelings of not having to haul a trailer load to set up... I have picked out 2 of the 3 projects for the classes I am taking, getting my bags packed, and feel like I am already forgetting something. Maybe when I haul as much as I do, I bring more than I need because I may be the one needing something! I won't have my safety net with me, so I may be bringing more than I actually need- just in case. I'm hoping it all fits in the Outback. My husband will be surprised that I'm not bringing a packed trailer, or maybe I should put all of my stuff in it... ;-) He knows I'm going to Medora, just not as a participant... I left that little nugget out. I love going to retreats. I get the chance to actually sew. The bonus is all of the wonderful people with similar creative passions who get to be there with you! The sharing of completely diverse but similar projects giving you a glimpse into each and every person creating them. And being able to visit with each one there. The common ground ties us each together and makes everything that much brighter! If you haven't participated in a retreat, I highly recommend them!

Hello, Everyone!

Happy Fall!! A bit of good news... Last Friday Megan let me go wedding dress shopping with her! And we were in luck and I made it home safely! A bit of bad news, we ended up getting close to 6" of rain that washed out the highway and submerged my gravel road to Carrington. So I have been somewhat stranded on a deserted island... as Rett says... but we have been with electricity and the fridge is stocked, so it hasn't been too bad here. Our sump pump is still running every 8 minutes and we live on a hill, but it's better than the ever minute 8 seconds it was on Saturday! I did hear that my gravel road is now above water, hence the traffic going by my house, and the pickup is getting pulled out so the road crews can rebuild the wash out. The culvert was most likely blocked by a round bale so that made the water find an alternate route taking the road with it. Oh such excitement around here! I will be back in action tomorrow in time for Club. I hope everyone had the chance to sew a Jelly Roll this weekend!! As for me, I'm on the road again this week! Hello, Everyone!

Well, Fall is upon us and a few special blooms have been cheering up my spent gardens. Kind of a last hurrah. Sad, but I know the season changes bring on new challenges for me. Retreat season is here with our first beginning this Thursday! I am in need of a few more days to prepare myself, and that doesn't include tomorrow or Wednesday... But that seems to be the case every event we take part in. That's just part of the game I play. Time to get busy and jump in with both feet! Ready or not, here I come!

Fall is a great time to revamp my sewing room. Time to pause and take a true inventory of what I can work on at retreats, or just simply needs to get finished for a Guild UFO. The closets are full, and have been for years, but sometimes I just forget what treasures I have behind closed doors! Maybe this year, I can make a list of projects set aside that haven't made it to my UFO lists. Challenge accepted, maybe after I get this first retreat under my belt!

Whew! Back in action and picking up steam these days... Retreat season is nearly upon us, but a few things are on the calendar before I can change gears for them. One of which happens to be my 14th Anniversary at the shop!! Woo-hoo!! Now if I could only be 41 again... Nah. That means Designer Fabrics Quilt Shop is 27 years young!! Now that's something to celebrate! And celebrate we will, later this week! Stop in Wednesday through Friday to check out our specials!!! We have been filling up the shelves with new fabrics and as a result I have been filling up the clearance to make way for them! And new samples are streaming in as well! We have been having a bit too much fun around here...

Hello, Everyone!

Well, where do I begin... Sorry this email is getting out a week later than anticipated... My Alex ended up with a partially collapsed lung a week ago Saturday and I met him at the hospital in Fargo as I was at mom's for my class reunion since Friday. Since then I have been sitting in the hospital with him, or fetching food for us, and staying in a hotel almost every night. We are hopefully turning a corner and getting sprung tomorrow morning after the x-ray gets read and the doctors make their rounds. Thankfully, Todd brought my laptop down so I could try to get some work done when things were quiet, of which didn't happen until today after his chest tube was pulled. He is resting comfortably and I can be pretty quiet. Poor kid... Good thing I didn't know what I wanted to wear to the reunion as I packed extra clothes... I did manage to go to mom's one night and wash clothes so I could last the rest of the duration, but I'm running out once again. It will be good to get home. Todd has been holding down the fort, when he hasn't been down here, with picking an overabundance of veggies for me to tackle when I get home. So, if you are in need of slicing cucumbers and can pick them up at the shop, let me know... he's been picking a 5 gallon bucket every couple of days! He's getting the beans ready for me to can maybe on Wednesday if time allows... And don't get me started on the zucchini!

Thank you to everyone who picked up all my slack at the shop and didn't skip a beat so I could be here... I owe you all!!

Hello, Everyone!

Figured I'd better get this going this morning early as I have a trip to the vet in store for me after dinner... Finn can't get up as easily as she used to. So it's time to take her in and see what's up. Just last week she was acting a bit peculiar when I would go out for walks. She would lay down on the road at the beginning of the walk and be there when I came back. The week before she went for walks and one in particular, came home and dropped two duck eggs at the end of the driveway. Who knows how far she carried them! They were in tact until she scooped them up and dropped them on the gravel the second time. "Look what I found!!" staring me in the face with her tail a wagging...

Jake still goes with me sniffing out everything along the way, but I see him looking back wondering if Finn is catching up. Today she doesn't even want to stand. Poor thing. I called the vet and they thought maybe the start of arthritis. I can so relate. Let's hope that it is something treatable. The pups will be 8 years old July 13th and are brother/sister. Oh, and speaking of birthdays... my Alex turns 26 today!! Bah humbug!! I'm getting old...

Happy Summer!! Finding it hard to catch up with myself these days... but once again I'm back from on the road again! This time we were vending at a retreat in Richardton! We had a great time with many new friends and did manage to get outdoors and go for several walks! Something we never do in the Winter at the retreats... What a difference a few months make! Tonight I captured this rainbow on my walk. It was so vivid!! Guess it may have been better in real life. Just taking time to stop and smell the roses.

Hello, Everyone!

Hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day! Remembering the reason for the season today & every day. Thank you to all those who gave up their lives to keep us safe and let us live our everyday lives! You are not forgotten.

With Summer nipping at the heels of Spring, hopefully the weather can make up it's mind soon. So far anything outdoors for me has been on hold, and my time has been spent quilting or planning for this Summer's events! Which isn't all bad. I did manage to finish a couple of projects for my niece's graduation and crammed in a quilt club project recently... It's only going to be downhill from here (Ya right), maybe for May. As the calendar gets ready to turn another page, the roller coaster begins for another month, and I've been trying to incorporate some "Special Days" into our lineup.

Hello, Everyone!

Back from Fargo... what a great show! We had a little hiccup with the laptop crashing before Saturday's opening, so I am behind the eight ball trying to get my old laptop up and running and equipped with everything I need to run this ship. Today has been a bit frustrating and rewarding... All of my new to come pics I saved once upon a time didn't get transferred to the USB stick so I have had to redo everything that has come into the shop the last couple of weeks. On the other hand, I was able to retrieve all of Friday's transactions from the Fargo Show! Whew! I was beginning to have the girls start to do inventory on each department so we could get them up to date in the shop. Ugh! I am very thankful for my computer minded son of mine for having the knowledge and capability of getting my hard drive information off the crashed laptop! I am not tech savvy, and am challenged severely when things don't work. I still have several things to get back up and running, but I'll tackle them as they are needed. For now, we will concentrate on keeping up with the fabrics that are flowing into the shop over the next month or so... If you didn't get a chance to check out our latest samples/kits at the Fargo Show, stop in as it may be a bit until I get them uploaded to the website. I first need to find/retake all of the pictures. Wish me luck!

Sounds like Spring is in a holding pattern for this week... So out for a walk a couple of times I went today. I was hoping the colors of the sky would be as awesome as I saw them in real life! What a difference a week makes. We still have some huge snow mounds in the yard and tree rows, but they are shrinking. Yay! Now if the weather stays south of us. I may need to go somewhere there is better weather if it gets close... Richardton, you'd better have good weather!!

With a couple of retreats taking up my time away from the shop, I did a bit of Spring cleaning as promised and there is a bigger collection in the clearance! Tomorrow or Wednesday I have plans to add more bolts back there too! We have tons of new fabric coming in and I need more empty shelves to accommodate them!

Well, vacation is over... Time to get back into the real world and retreat-mode! Paperwork and bindings have been on my counter for the last week and I'm tackling as much as I can. New samples are in the shop, taxes are done, pattern is written for tomorrow, the sun is shining... It's going to be one get-r-done kind of a week! It's amazing what a little sunshine can do for the soul.

I'm in the mood to do a bit of Spring Cleaning! At home and at the shop... Maybe this week will be your lucky week to find new treasures in the clearance at the shop. I need to make room for the NEW arriving!! Stop in and check it out!

April 16th~ Carrington Quilt Guild- Don't forget to bring your Bag Lady Challenge blocks! Also, for those of you participating in the Kit Swap Game, please bring a pre-made or stash-made quilt kit (at least 50" x 60" with the pattern included) either wrapped or in a brown paper bag. And we will be taking up Food Pantry donations this month. Remember your dues for the year (if you haven't paid them), UFO's for show & tell, and (4) items to play our game... We will be meeting around 6:15ish at the shop!
